Focusable element hidden from screen readers
An element that can receive keyboard focus but is aria-hidden creates a focus stop that announces nothing.
The markup we quote
<div aria-hidden="true"><a href="/hidden/">Details</a></div>
Every finding quotes the exact markup responsible, so you can confirm it by viewing the page source — you never have to take our word for it.
How to fix it
- Either remove
aria-hidden="true", or take the focusable elements out of the tab order withtabindex="-1". - The usual cause is a mobile menu or an off-canvas panel that is hidden from screen readers but still reachable by keyboard.
When we might be wrong
A link inside aria-hidden with tabindex="-1" is not reported.
