Duplicate id attributes
An id must be unique. When it is not, labels and anchors can point at the wrong element.
The markup we quote
<div id="gallery">…</div>
<div id="gallery">…</div>
Every finding quotes the exact markup responsible, so you can confirm it by viewing the page source — you never have to take our word for it.
How to fix it
- Make every id unique on the page. Duplicates happen when a block is duplicated, or when a page builder renders the same widget twice.
- Ids matter because labels,
aria-labelledbyand in-page links point at them: with a duplicate, the wrong element gets the label or the focus.
When we might be wrong
A duplicated id inside content hidden from assistive technology is still a duplicate, and still reported. If a framework emits them by design, tell us and we will look at the specific case.

If the finding is wrong, tell us with the page and the line. A wrong finding costs more trust than a missing one, and it is the defect we treat as urgent.
