Image without alt text
Screen readers announce the file name or nothing at all, so the image carries no information for a blind visitor.
The markup we quote
<img src="/uploads/team.jpg">
Every finding quotes the exact markup responsible, so you can confirm it by viewing the page source — you never have to take our word for it.
How to fix it
- In the block editor, select the image and fill in the Alternative text field in the block's settings — the one under the image, not the media library's title.
- If the image is decorative (a divider, a background flourish), leave alt empty on purpose with
alt="", so a screen reader skips it instead of reading a file name. - For images that appear in templates rather than posts, the field is usually in the theme customiser or in the widget that renders the image.
When we might be wrong
We accept alt, aria-label, aria-labelledby or title as naming the image, so an image that carries one of those will not be flagged. What we cannot tell is whether the words are any good.

If the finding is wrong, tell us with the page and the line. A wrong finding costs more trust than a missing one, and it is the defect we treat as urgent.
