Form field without a label
The field is announced without saying what to type, which makes forms impossible to complete reliably without sight.
The markup we quote
<input type="text" name="email">
Every finding quotes the exact markup responsible, so you can confirm it by viewing the page source — you never have to take our word for it.
How to fix it
- Connect a
<label for="…">to the field's id, wrap the field in a label, or addaria-label. - Form plugins usually have a label field that is separate from the placeholder; a placeholder is not a label, because it disappears as soon as somebody types.
When we might be wrong
Hidden, submit and button inputs need no label, and neither do fields that are already labelled by an aria-labelledby that resolves.
