Positive tabindex
A positive tabindex reorders the whole page for keyboard users and usually makes some controls unreachable.
The markup we quote
<div tabindex="3">
Every finding quotes the exact markup responsible, so you can confirm it by viewing the page source — you never have to take our word for it.
How to fix it
- Remove it, or use
tabindex="0"if the element needs to be focusable. - Positive values override the page's natural order everywhere, so one stray
tabindex="1"can reorder a whole page; the fix is to put elements in the right order in the markup.
When we might be wrong
tabindex="-1" is not reported: it is the correct way to take something out of the tab order while keeping it focusable programmatically.

If the finding is wrong, tell us with the page and the line. A wrong finding costs more trust than a missing one, and it is the defect we treat as urgent.
